Abstract :
As an overseas student, having subjective well-being is important because it will influence
their problem-solving skills, self-control and motivation, all of which can possibly affect
their academics. Gratitude and patience may increase an individual’s subjective wellbeing.
Gratitude helps an individual feel a positive emotion, and this increases subjective
well-being. Throughout our lives, everyone will face unfavourable circumstances. Thus,
we should have patience to help an individual feel optimistic in their life. The purpose of
this study was to understand the correlation between gratitude and patience with
subjective well-being of overseas students. Therefore, with regards to the purpose, this
abstract is considered as correlation research. The study showed 179 students originating
from outside of Java, all of which are Muslims and active students. Data was obtained
using a gratitude, patience, positive and negative affect scale and life satisfaction scale.
Data was analysed by using correlation analysis. The results showed that (1) Gratitude
had a significant positive correlation with subjective wellbeing (r=0,27, p=0,000). (2)
Patience had a significant positive correlation with subjective wellbeing (r=0,34,
p=0,000). This means that gratitude and patience affect subjective well-being of overseas
students in Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang.
