Abstract :
Background: Dyslipidemia is defined as a condition where there is an increase in LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein), cholesterol in the blood, or triglycerides, which can be accompanied by a decrease in HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) levels. Dyslipidemia is a risk factor for several diseases, such as atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease (CHD). The traditional treatment used is papaya (Carica papaya L.).
Objective: Mention the content of compounds in papaya plants that can be used in the treatment of dyslipidemia and explain the mechanism of action of the active compounds in papaya plants so that they can be used as antidyslipidemic agent.
Method: The study used a literature review method whose journals or articles were obtained from 5 databases, namely: Pubmed, Science Direct, Cochrane, Semantic Scholar and Google Scholar. The keywords used in Indonesian are ?pepaya dalam pengobatan dislipidemia? and ?Carica papaya dan dislipidemia? and the English keywords are "Papaya in the treatment of dyslipidemia" or "Carica papaya" OR "papaya" AND "dyslipidemia" or "Carica papaya" OR ?papaya? AND ?hyperlipidemic?.
Result and Conclusion: There were 11 articles that had passed the screening process based on the inclusion criteria that had been set. These articles explain the content in papaya plants and their mechanism of action so that they have the potential as antidyslipidemia. Papaya plants contain pectin, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, alkaloids and vitamin C The content of papaya can potentially be used for the treatment of dyslipidemia.
