Abstract :
This research discussed about speech act by Donald Trump in dealing with
the covid-19 outbreak. In speech act, it is found that every utterances that generate
an action will be related to locutionary act, illocutionary act, and perlocutionary
act. This study aimed to identify the speech act categories and the most dominant
speech act in Donald Trump?s speech. The research data were analyzed using
descriptive qualitative method. The researcher analyzed Donald Trump's
utterances and classified them into several categories of speech acts. The finding
showed that Donald Trump?s speech contain all of the three types of speech acts.
In the locutionary act, the researcher found 3 utterances which showed the literal
meaning of what Donald Trumps? said. Meanwhile, in the illocutionary act, they
were 15 assertive acts, 4 directive acts, 4 expressive acts, but commisive acts and
declarative acts were not found. Then, in the perlocutionary act, there was an
effect from the citizen caused by the speech. Furthermore, the most dominant type
of speech act used by Donald Trump was Illocutionary act.
