Abstract :
Animated series whose visual packaging and characters contradict the age restrictions that are carried and contain lots of violence, such as the animated series Tokyo Revengers. This study aims to find out how visual violence in the animated series Tokyo Revengers is constructed. This study uses a qualitative interpretative approach. The stages of the analysis are as follows: the animation is watched directly from the Netflix Platform and then 5 episodes are selected that feature a lot of violence. Then each scene is analyzed from a visual point of view (color, line, shape, lighting) using the framing model from Gamson and Modigliani. The results of the research and data analysis show that the visual violence in the animated series Tokyo Revengers is constructed like an animated series for children. The use of bright colors in the visuals and the shape of the characters are made like innocent school children with bright colors. However, the visual creation is contrary to the story presented which often displays violence in a frontal manner without any censorship. The results of construction analysis based on salient elements such as exemplars and roots show that forms of violence are described so clearly without censorship such as bloody faces, stabbings and murders. The conclusion of this study is that the author wants to create animations with images and colors that are identical to children's to make it look different from adult animation in general.
