Abstract :
This research is about self-disclosure where at first many people did self-disclosure which was done on one of Instagram's features, namely the close friend feature. The researcher found a phenomenon that often occurs is that many students are still shy about expressing themselves, then many people are helped by the close friend feature in expressing themselves by uploading things that were previously disclosed and only disclosing to those closest to them. The purpose of this research is to find out how the motivation that encourages 2018 Communication Studies students at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) makes self-disclosure in the Instagram close friend feature. The method in this study uses qualitative research and the type of research is descriptive descriptive. The theory used is the theory of self-disclosure and the theory of hope motivation. The research subjects were 2018 Communication Science students at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang who carried out self-disclosure, obtained 6 research subjects with the initials NA, AY, IR, TP, NR and AS. The conclusion of the research results found that research subjects felt more secure and comfortable to disclose themselves on the Instagram close friend feature. In addition, the research subject has his own comfortable space because where the research subject can freely express what he feels to the people closest to him so that he has a positive quality of self-disclosure. The close friend feature itself has very close intimacy, the close friend feature aims to minimize the friendship space which is only to be able to share stories with his closest friends. Then the valence that arises after disclosing the close friend feature tends to be positive because the subject considers opening up it is necessary, important and has a good impact on oneself.
