The value of literature in everyone's life cannot be ruled out from
everything. Understanding figurative language and imagery is essential to
comprehend and express written ideas in literature. This research aimed to
analyse the figurative language and imagery in The Beatles' Abbey Road album,
exploring how they communicate the songs' meanings and affect musical art. The
Qualitative Descriptive method was used, with the researcher functioning as the
main instrument and supporting instruments such as documentation, tabulation,
and bar charts employed to collect data from all songs on the album.
The findings revealed 11 types of figurative language and four types of
imagery used, with hyperbole being the most dominant occurring figurative
language and visual imagery being the most dominant imagery. These results
demonstrate that figurative language and imagery are essential in conveying the
meaning of the songs and can influence lyrical art. Therefore, it can be concluded
that the Beatles' songs on the Abbey Road album use figurative language and
imagery to make their songs more memorable and meaningful. Then, the future
researcher could expand on the types of figurative language and imagery that have
not been discovered in this research.
