Abstract :
Language is a system of communication which consist of a set of sound
and written symbols which are used by the people of a particular country or
region for talking or writing. The ability to communicate the thoughts, emotions,
and opinions to others is truly a remarkable ability. There are many ways people
do to deliver their ideas to others so that people can understand and catch the
meaning of that. One of the ways is by song. There are so many people figure
out their feeling through the songs. It can be feeling sad, happy, angry, etc. A
song is a short piece of music, usually with words. In song, there are many
messages delivered on it. Figurative language is a type of language that employs
expressions in words that have a meaning that differs from the literal
meaning.The purpose of this research are to identify the types and to
analyze the meaning conveyed in the figurative language used in the song lyrics
"It Will Rain" By Bruno Mars. In this research, the researcher used a descriptive
qualitative approach,the purpose of the descriptive approach is to provide an
explanation, an analysis, and a classification of an object or phenomenon by the
use of numerous procedures. The descriptive qualitative method will match that
used in this research because will help the writer to describe the figurative
language that used in the song lyric "It Will Rain" a by Bruno Mars.
The results of the analysis show that total of figurative language is 9
consisting of similes was 1 or 10% metaphor was 1 or 10%, personification was 2
or 20% and hyperbole was 6 or 60%. It's means that the researcher found 4 a
figurative language that consisted of simile, methapor, personification and
hyperbole in song lyric ?It Will Rain? by Bruno Mars. The researcher realizes that
the results of this study are still far from perfect. Thus, she expects that other
researchers conduct further research so that they can find other research findings
related to this issue especially the types of figurative language found in the
reading text of selected TOEFL exercises.
