Abstract :
Linking verb is a part of the sentence containing a verb that makes a statement about
the subject of the verb. The purpose of this research was to look at linking verb in John
Green's novel The Fault in Our Stars. The subject of this research is a novel entitled The
Fault in Our Stars by John Green. This research method is qualitative research.
The researcher found a linking verb that consisted of a Linking Verb (to be), and a
Linking Verb (non-to be). The total of all linking verbs is 539. Based on the analysis of the
findings, Linking Verb (to be) was 440 or 81,63%, and Linking Verb (no-to-be) was 99 or
18,37%. Based on the research results, the linking verb (to be) that is not in the story The
Fault in Our Stars? by John Green Novel is "be" and "being", while the linking verbs (non -to
be) that are not in the category such as "fail", "fiil", "prove", "remain", "smell", "sound",
"taste". So The type of Linking Verb are mostly found in The Fault In Our Star by John Green
is Linking Verb (to be). The result of this study is expected useful for students in increasing
their knowledge of the study in literature as references, to get information about novels and
the aspect of the novel, and this research will be better in the future, namely to complete the
linking verbs (to be) such as "be" and "being" while the linking verbs (non-to be) such as
"fail", "fill", "prove", "remain", "smell", "sound", "taste" which are not found in the novel The
Fault in our Stars by John Green.
