Abstract :
English becomes the most important language in the world as an international
language, and used by the people to communicate or get information around the
world. This research aims to determine the reading comprehension and find out
the significant effect of DRTA strategy among eleventh grade students at SMK
Kartikatama Metro. This research utilized a quantitative methodology with a
quasi-experimental design. The sample of this research is 11.Ak and 11.Tkj of
SMK Kartikatama Metro. The result of this research is the use of DRTA strategy
significantly improved students' reading comprehension. The data showed a
significant improvement in students' performance, with the average score
increasing by 28.5 points from pre-test to post-test, indicating that the DRTA
strategy was very effective. Result of hypothesis test is the sig value was 0.000,
which was less than the threshold of 0.05. This confirms that the alternative
hypothesis (H1) is accepted, meaning that the use of DRTA has a significant
positive impact on students' reading comprehension. In conclusion, the Directed
Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) model has been proven to be an effective
strategy to improve students' reading comprehension at SMK Kartikatama Metro.
