Phrasal verb is the combination of two or three words from different
grammatical categories verb and a particle, such as an adverb or a preposition to
form a single semantic unit on a lexical or syntactic level. The aim of the research
is to identify the types of phrasal verb used in the lyric of Miley Cyrus songs and
to find out the meaning of phrasal verb used in the lyrics of Miley Cyrus songs.
This research is descriptive qualitative method, the researcher as the main
instrument, documentation, and tabulation as supporting instruments.
The research on Miley Cyrus's album Endless Summer Vacation, Plastic
Hearts, Younger Now gives us a clear look at how she uses phrasal verbs in her
lyrics. The study found a total of 113 phrasal verbs across 28 songs, with 78 of
them being transitive and 35 intransitive. This shows a strong preference for
transitive phrasal verbs, which describe actions that directly affect something.
This choice helps create clear and vivid pictures in the lyrics, making it easier for
listeners to connect with the songs. By focusing on actions that impact objects,
the lyrics become more lively and relatable, enhancing the overall listening
experience.
In this research, The relatively small sample size of songs analyzed might
also limit the generalizability of the findings to other artists or genres. Therefore,
for the future researcher could expanding the scope of research to include a
larger and more diverse sample of songs could also strengthen the
generalizability of the findings and contribute to a more comprehensive analysis
of phrasal verbs in music.
