Abstract :
This research aims to find out whether the use of Image-Based Learning
Strategies functions to improve students' writing skills in working on descriptive
texts by writers. This research aims to find out; improving writing performance
on descriptive text using image-based learning. The problem of this research is
the lack of student vocabulary and the low level of student vocabulary mastery.
Is the use of image-based learning strategies able to improve students' writing
skills? The research method used is car design which consists of pre-test, posttest.The
aim
of
this
research
is
to
improve
student
learning
in
descriptive
writing,
whether
or not it is necessary to use image-based learning in working on
descriptive text. The strategy of using pictures can improve students' writing
achievement. For example, this research is students of SMP N 2 Batanghari. In
this research, researchers used two cycles to obtain qualitative and quantitative
data. The data collection instruments used were observation sheets, interviews,
tests and documentation.
Where the researcher took one class of 30 students as a sample.
Researchers used two types of tests, namely written tests to measure
improvements in students' writing skills in terms of constructing descriptive
sentences, vocabulary and language use. and student activity in class increased
rapidly. Previously, in class, students did not understand the teacher who
explained the material and now students are starting to be interested in the
material presented by the teacher so they pay attention to every lesson the
teacher conveys.
The results of this research can be seen from the pre-test data, the
average student score was 46.5%, then after cycle one, post-test I was carried
out, the average student score was 68.36%, then in cycle two the average
student score was obtained. . . post-test, namely 78.36%, this is an effective
image-based learning strategy for improving students' writing skills in terms of
sentence creation, vocabulary, language use. The application of image-based
learning strategies effectively increases students' writing responses at SMP N 2
Batanghari.
Based on the data obtained in this research, image-based learning
strategies can be applied in the English language learning process, especially in
efforts to improve students' writing skills in descriptive text. By using this
strategy, students can easily write simple sentences. And students succeeded
in getting higher scores from the KKM. Suggestions for future researchers are to
use or conduct this research in the field of writing because this research can be
used to expand knowledge of how to teach in an interesting and fun but
effective way in the learning process.
