Abstract :
Education is an important thing in a person's life, because education is able to realize a person has the ability and skills in connection with the mastery of technology and knowledge. One of the factors that determine the success and advancement of education in a nation is determined by educators or teachers. Teachers are educational staff who interact directly with students. A teacher must have competence. Teacher competencies consist of pedagogic, personality, social and professional competencies. This study aims to determine and describe the description of teacher competence in the novel of Guru Aini by Andrea Hirata. The research method used in this study is a qualitative research with a descriptive research design. Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that the pedagogic competencies shown in the novel of Guru Aini include understanding insight or educational foundations, understanding students, developing curriculum or syllabus, designing learning, implementing learning and dialogic, evaluating learning outcomes, and developing students to actualize various potential which are owned. The teacher's personality competencies described in the novel of Guru Aini include a steady and stable personality, mature, wise, authoritative, and have noble character. The teacher's social competence described in the novel of Guru Aini includes the ability to communicate effectively, get along with the community, and apply the principles of true brotherhood and the spirit of togetherness. Professional teacher competencies described in the novel of Guru Aini include the ability to master material broadly and deeply, as well as master concepts and methods of relevant disciplines, technology, or arts.
