Abstract :
Diabetes mellitus is often referred to as the "silent killer", it is estimated that as many as
1.6 million deaths are directly caused by diabetes globally. Diabetes is a corneal disease
in which the pancreas does not produce enough insulin. There are several factors that
can cause symptoms of type II diabetes, namely due to age, obesity and family history or
genetics. There are many ways to deal with type II diabetes mellitus, there are
pharmacological and non-pharmacological ways, one of which is by applying yoga
exercises. Yoga can increase muscle activity so that it can improve muscle cell
metabolism in glucose absorption, yoga movements can help the pancreas to function
effectively in regulating blood glucose levels. This study aims to determine how effective
the application of yoga in the suffering of type II diabetes mellitus in lowering blood
glucose levels. This research method uses the case study method. The application of yoga
exercises was carried out during 7 days of home visits, the results obtained were blood
glucose levels which were originally 258 mg/dl decreased to 169 mg/dl. It can be
concluded that the application of yoga is effective for lowering blood glucose levels in
patients with type II diabetes melitus.
