Abstract :
Dysmenorrhea is menstrual pain or cramps caused by an imbalance of the hormone
progesterone in the blood. Dysmenorrhea can be felt in the lower abdomen and can spread
to the waist, hips and upper thighs. Dysmenorrhea can be treated with pharmacological
and non-pharmacological therapy. One of the managements of dysmenorrhea with nonpharmacological therapy is giving lavender aromatherapy candles. This paper aims to
apply the use of lavender aromatherapy candles to young women in reducing dysmenorrhea
pain. The method of writing paper uses a case study. The author did lavender aromatherapy
candle therapy once a day for three consecutive days. Giving lavender aromatherapy
candles is done for 15-30 minutes. The results obtained after treating the client using
lavender aromatherapy candle were a decrease in the pain scale from seven (severe pain)
to five (moderate pain) and from score four (moderate pain) to one (mild pain). The results
of using lavender aromatherapy candles are effective for reducing acute pain of
dysmenorrhea in young women. The results of this writing are expected to increase
knowledge, especially for young women so they can apply lavender aromatherapy candles
as a non-pharmacological alternative to reduce dysmenorrhea pain during menstruation.
