Abstract :
Changes in the lifestyle of modern society have a major impact on the emergence of various
diseases. One of the many diseases caused by an unhealthy lifestyle is diabetes mellitus
type II. Based on IDF data, in Indonesia more than 10 million people experience cases of
diabetes mellitus. The purpose of writing scientific papers is to provide nursing care and
provide progressive muscle relaxation for lowering blood sugar levels. Type II diabetes
mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by an increase in blood glucose (hyperglycemia)
due to disturbances in insulin secretion so that insulin is of poor quality or does not function
properly. One of the non-pharmacological management of type II diabetes mellitus is
progressive muscle relaxation. Data collection techniques used consisted of observation,
interviews, literature studies. Participants were 1 person who had type II diabetes mellitus.
The application of progressive muscle relaxation was carried out for 3 days with 6
meetings. The results of the application of progressive muscle relaxation showed that it
was able to lower the client's blood sugar level, which originally was 262 mg/dL before
application and after application decreased to 165 mg/dL. Based on these results it was
concluded that there was a significant effect of applying progressive muscle relaxation to
reducing blood sugar levels in type II diabetes mellitus patients. The writer's suggestion is
that clients and families can apply this progressive muscle relaxation therapy at home
independently to control their blood sugar levels.
