Abstract :
Ponorogo City is a flood-prone area, particularly in the vicinity of the Sekayu River or the confluence of the Sungkur, Slahung, and Keyang rivers. Floods occur when rain coincides with high rainfall intensity. When the water level of the Madiun River is significantly high during floods, and the water flow from the three rivers cannot flow into the Madiun River, this situation causes each river to flow upstream. In the event of a massive flood overflow, it can lead to backwater flow, resulting from the relatively flat confluence of the rivers. Therefore, the author has initiated the design of an Internet of Things-based rain intensity monitoring system in the three upstream river areas.This system or device will provide information to residents living in flood-prone areas regarding rainfall intensity in the three upstream river areas. This enables the community to access real-time information on rainfall levels in the upstream river areas and helps minimize the risk of flooding and dangers to the riverbank communities downstream. The device will monitor and measure rainfall intensity using a tipping bucket sensor, classifying it into light rain, normal rain, heavy rain, and very heavy rain categories. Rainfall intensity is directly proportional to the increase in runoff flow in river channels, which will be monitored through a water flow meter sensor. The device will provide real-time information on rainfall intensity and river flow discharge through a web server. In case of high rainfall intensity and potential flooding, it will send informative messages via Telegram to the community and relevant authorities. The result of this design is a device capable of monitoring rainfall intensity in three upstream river areas. The data from this device will be summarized using a web platform accessible to the communities living near the rivers.
