Abstract :
This thesis is titled "New Regulation Coverage by the Ministry of Education and Culture and Research on the Use of Traditional Attire as School Uniforms After Socialization (Analysis of Framing in Online Media Republika.co.id and Suarasurabaya.net Edition on October 24, 2022)." The purpose of this research is to understand the construction of news coverage regarding the new regulation on the use of traditional attire as school uniforms in the online media platforms Republika.co.id and Suarasurabaya.net. The study uses a qualitative approach and applies the framing analysis theory proposed by Zhongdan Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki, focusing on four structures: syntax, script, thematic, and rhetoric. Data collection was conducted through observation, documentation, and interviews. The research findings indicate that news from Republika.co.id applies framing that supports the government's policy by highlighting the compliance of Purbalingga Regency Government with the national policy on the use of traditional attire as school uniforms. On the other hand, news from Suarasurabaya.net employs framing that expresses skepticism towards the policy. The opinion of cultural expert Luhur Kayungga is presented to illustrate the ineffectiveness of using traditional attire in introducing culture to the younger generation. As a result, readers of Indoraya.news might support the policy and see its benefits in fostering nationalism, while readers of Suarasurabaya.net might feel uncertain about the policy, raising concerns about cultural introduction and financial implications as primary points of contention.
