Abstract :
Dengan demikian, pemasangan catalytic converter pada mobil Kijang Super 7K tahun 1996 memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap penurunan emisi hidrokarbon dan peningkatan efisiensi termal mesin, meskipun hasil emisi yang diperoleh masih belum memenuhi standar emisi yang ditetapkan pemerintah.\r\n\r\nKata Kunci: catalytic converter, emisi gas buang, hidrokarbon (HC), karbon dioksida (CO₂), efisiensi termal.\r\n\r\nABSTRACT\r\nThis study aims to analyze the effect of installing a catalytic converter on exhaust gas emissions and engine performance of a 1996 Toyota Kijang Super 7K. The study was motivated by the high level of vehicle exhaust emissions that contribute to air pollution, particularly in older vehicles that are not equipped with catalytic converters. An experimental method was employed by comparing exhaust emission measurements before and after the installation of a three-way catalytic converter. Emission testing was conducted using a gas analyzer to measure carbon dioxide (CO₂) and hydrocarbon (HC) levels, while engine performance was evaluated through thermal efficiency calculations. The results showed that before the installation of the catalytic converter, CO₂ emissions were 5.4% and HC emissions were 5,414 ppm. After installation, CO₂ emissions increased slightly to 5.6%, while HC emissions decreased to 3,258 ppm. The reduction of 2,156 ppm in HC emissions indicates that the catalytic converter effectively reduced hydrocarbon pollutants in the exhaust gas. In addition, the engine\'s thermal efficiency increased from 36% to 41% after the installation. Therefore, the addition of a catalytic converter to the 1996 Toyota Kijang Super 7K had a positive impact on reducing hydrocarbon emissions and improving engine thermal efficiency, although the emission levels obtained still did not fully comply with government emission standards.\r\nKeywords: catalytic converter, exhaust emissions, hydrocarbon (HC), carbon dioxide (CO₂), thermal efficiency.
