Abstract :
Abstract: This research type is descriptive research with qualitative approach which aim to
know metakognitif skill of junior high student in solving mathematics problem based on
cognitive style difference. Research begins with determining the subject of research by giving
the MFFT instrument personally to 39 students. The subjects of the study were four students
consisting of two female students with refractive cognitive style and two female students of
cognitive impulse style. The relatively similar mathematical ability, the same gender,
communication ability, and availability of students were taken into consideration in choosing
the subject. Subsequently subjects were given non-routine Algebra problem-solving tests and
interviews. Checking the validity of data using triangulation method and source triangulation.
The results showed that (1) problem-solving strategies conducted by reflective subjects and
impulsive subjects tended to be the same ie using advanced thinking and retrospective thinking
strategies, (2) there were differences in metacognitive skills of cognitively reflective-style
subjects and impulsive cognitive- problem. The reflective subject is able to manage cognitive
activites and realized metacognitive activites conducted. While the impulsive subject is able to
use cognitive activities were unable to manage it so they were unable to realize metacognitive
activities conducted.
