Abstract :
ABSTRACT
Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is one of the a type of chronic metabolic disorder characterized by
blood glucose levels that exceed normal values. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of
the combined dose of noni leaf extract and watermelon rind extract as a reduction in blood sugar
levels in male white mice. As many as 35 test animals were used, which were divided into 7
experimental groups with each treatment consisting of 5 mice as replications. The treatment group
consisted of: positive control (glibenclamide 0.65 mg / 20 g BW), negative control (CMC Na),
dose 1 (noni leaf extract 32 mg / 20 g BW), dose 2 (watermelon rind extract 14 mg / 20 g BW),
combination dose 3 (noni leaf extract 32 mg / 20 g BW : watermelon rind extract 14 mg / 20 g
BW), combination dose 4 (noni leaf extract 32 mg / 20 g BW: watermelon rind extract 28 mg / 20
g BW), a combination dose of 5 (noni leaf extract 16 mg / 20 g BW: watermelon rind extract 28
mg / 20 g BW), then the test animals measured their blood sugar levels. The data obtained were
then analyzed using a factorial randomized block design (RBD). Mice were treated according to
the treatment group for 21 days until the blood sugar levels of the mice were normal, measurement
of blood sugar levels was carried out on days 7, 14 and 21. The results showed that all treatment
doses had activity to lower blood sugar levels. The combination of noni leaf extract at a dose of 32
mg / 20 gBB and watermelon rind extract 14 mg / 20 gBB with a duration of administration for 14
days is the most effective dose as a reduction in blood sugar levels with a percentage reduction of
61.57%.
