Abstract :
This thesis deals with language and utterance. This discussion focuses on the speech acts especially in illocutionary acts in the movie. Thus the research problems are on the types of illocutionary acts that are used by main characters in Moana and the most common type of illocutionary acts by main characters in Moana. The writer uses qualitative method. The writer collect the data from the script, then describes context and analyzing the data based on the theory of illocutionary acts. Based on theory provided, the data are analyzed one by one to know the contexts and types of illocutionary acts used to focus on the study. Finally, in analyzing the data, the writer used Five-type basic illocutionary acts by George Yule (1996); Declarations, Representatives, Expressives, Directives and Commissives. The most common type of illocutionary acts is Directive. The total percentage is Directive 43.4%, Expressive 20%, Declarative 13.3%, Commissive 13.3% and Representative 10%.
