Abstract :
Braveheart is an American epic war film which portrays William Wallace as the leader in the first war of Scottish Independence against England. To reach the goals of the study which describe the concept of freedom of William Wallace and its effects to Scottish Nobles, this study applies Jacques Derrida?s theory of humanistic. Humanistic psychology approach is used since this study leads to the formulation of the term of freedom. As it is implied in the movie, the Scottish nobles are too selfish and greedy as they compromise their country?s freedom in exchange for titles, estates, and gold, while the commoner live in poor. Lands and titles mean more to them than a sense of nationhood and a taste of freedom. This situation makes the commoner more oppressed. William Wallace shines forth as the one man who bring hope for Scotsmen. His concept of freedom affects Scotsmen to wake up and fight for their freedom. In the end, even after William?s death, his courage, spirit, leadership, and his nasionalism still inspire the Scots to keep fight, and Scotland win its freedom.
