Abstract :
Keywords: Semiotic analysis, visual signs, verbal signs. This thesis in the titled " Semiotic analysis on visual and verbal signs of Ed Sheeran?s Music Video Perfect" which aims to identify the visual sign elements displayed in the music video and analyze the meaning of verbal signs contained in song lyrics from music videos. The data source is taken from the video and song lyrics "Perfect from Ed Sheeran?. The method used in this research is the method of documentation and the steps beginning with downloading videos through the official website and then playing and watching repeatedly. Next, cut each scene to find elements of the visual mark displayed in the video. Second, the song lyrics from the video are searched from the internet site and read carefully. Third, song lyrics are classified based on the types of meanings. This paper uses two main theories, namely the visual communication theory proposed by Dyer (1993) to identify the elements of the visual sign. The second theory is the theory of meaning by Leech (1983) used to analyze the types of meanings of verbal signs. The results of this study indicate that the elements of the visual sign include several categories such Age, gender, hair, body, look, Expressions, eye contact, pose, clothes, Touch, body movement, potitional communications, prop and setting. There are three types of meanings contained in verbal signs, namely conceptual, connotative,affective meanings and reflected meaning.
