Abstract :
This study purposes to identify the translation techniques used by the translator in subtitling Aladin movie from English into Indonesian and determine the most dominant translation technique used by the translator. This study combines the qualitative approach with the quantitative one. The qualitative approach is used to identify techniques used by the translator, while the quantitative one is used to compile the finding with a simple counting by presenting the percentage. The data of this research were taken from The Subtitle Text of Aladin movie The results show that there are 9 techniques found in the Data. They are: adaptation, borrowing, amplification, calque, compensation, established equivalent, linguistic compression, literal, and reduction. The percentage of each techniques as follows: 1) borrowing occurs 56 times and represents 37.1%, 2) adaptation occurs 2 times and represents 1.3%, 3) Calque occurs 34 times and represents 22.5%, 4) literal translation occurs 19 times and represents 12.6%, 5) Established Equivalence occurs 15 times and represents 9.9%, 6) linguistic compression occurs 13 times and represents 8.6%, 7) Reduction occurs 7 times and represents 4.6%, 8) compensation occurs 4 times and represent 2.6%, and 9) amplification occurs 1 times and represents 0.6%. The most dominant type of translation technique is borrowing. It has higher frequency Data; they are 56 Data (37.1%). Keywords: Translation Techniques and Aladdin Movie.
