Abstract :
Luqman, Salsabiila, 2022. Code Switching in Makna Talks? Podcast on Spotify (A Sociolinguistic Study). Bachelor?s Degree Thesis, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Diponegoro, Semarang. 1 advisor: Drs. Suharyo, M.Hum. and 2 st nd advisor: Drs. Mujid Farihul Amin, M.Pd. This research aims to evaluate factors and varieties of code switching in fifteen episodes Makna Talks? podcast on Spotify. The methodology used on this research were note taking and active listening. The result of this research shows that throughout the fifteen evaluated podcast episodes, a total of 24 extern code switching was found, consisting of 11 code switching from Bahasa Indonesia to English, and 13 from English to Bahasa Indonesia. Four factors that triggers code switching were found on the evaluated podcast episodes, which are (1) the speaker (eight cases), (2) change of subject (two cases), (3) change of situations (five cases), and (4) source person as the guest on the podcast (four cases).
