Abstract :
ABSTRACT Population growth and varied consumption patterns in Temanggung Regency have led to increased waste generation, posing challenges for effective waste management. With service coverage at only 59.06%, far from the 99% target set by Regent's Regulation No. 35 of 2018, 3R Waste Processing Sites (WPS) are proposed as a solution to reduce landfill reliance. Currently, five out of 20 districts lack adequate 3R WPS facilities, worsening waste accumulation at the Sanggrahan landfill. This study uses Material Flow Analysis (MFA) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to evaluate existing waste management systems and select optimal processes for 3R WPS. MFA identifies inefficiencies in waste flows, while LCA assesses environmental impacts from waste processing methods?Windrow Composting and Black Soldier Fly (BSF)?and transportation. Results show Windrow Composting has the lowest environmental impact, making it the most suitable for 3R WPS implementation. Additionally, circular economy principles were integrated into the planning process by emphasizing the 5R concept (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Refurbish, Renew). This approach seeks to maximize waste value, reduce landfill dependency, and increase community participation. The study recommends a waste management system suitable for Temanggung's conditions, focusing on efficient waste processing, infrastructure upgrades, and active community involvement. Integrating circular economy strategies ensures waste becomes a valuable resource, promoting sustainable and effective waste management in the region.
