Abstract :
Dewi, Innaya Gusti Lilya. 16420161. Analysis Systemic Funtional Grammar In Narative Text. Final Ptoject, English Study Program, Faculty of Language and Arts Education, University of PGRI Semarang. Keywords: Systemic Functional Grammar, Ideational Metafunction, Interpersonal Metafunction, Textual Metafunction This final project is conducted to analyze Narrative Text By Using Systemic Functional English Grammar. The objectives of this study were too find out the ideational function, interpersonal function, and textual function in Cinderella. The methodology of this research was descriptive qualitative research. The main sources in this research were Cinderella story. The writer used some steps in analyzing the data: 1) choose a story and a feature for researcher to analyze, 2) collect a representative sample of text, 3) researcher systematically analyze the sample of text using basic SFG, 4) researcher look for information that helps elaborate on the findings, then write up the findings as an argument. The analysis showed varied results. 1) For ideational grammar analysis, the writer found material processes appear thirteen times in Cinderella story. Mental processes appear twelve times in Cinderella story. Relational processes appear four times in Cinderella story. Existential process appear one time in Cinderella story. Verbal Process appear one time in Cinderella story. Behavioural Processes appear seven time in Cinderella story. 2) For interpersonal grammar analysis, modality found in Cinderella story such as can, never, may, could. might, would, should, and need. 3) For textual grammar analysis, the writer found about 39 themes and 39 rhemes in Cinderella story. Based on the results of this final project, the writer suggests that teachers have to explain carefully when analysing Systematic Functional Grammar in Cinderella story. When there are students who have not understood yet about the material, teachers need to explain in detail. As for the student, to understand systemic functional grammar very well, students need to practice as often as possible. The writer suggests for further researcher to analyze narrative text structure using other analytical methods, such as the socio-cognitive approach of Van Dijk, Wodak?s discourse-historical method, Fairclough?s three-dimensional framework, and Thompso and Bhatia?s genre analysis.
