Mayalisa, Ivania. 2023. ?The Use of English Songs on Spotify To Motivate Students? Speaking Ability: A Case of the Eighth Students of SMP Purnama 2 Semarang in the Academic Year 2022/2023?. Final Project, English Education Study Program Faculty of Language and Arts Education, Universitas PGRI Semarang. Advisor I: Dr. Dias Andris Susanto, M.Pd., Advisor II: Drs. M. Wahyu Widiyanto, M.Pd. Keyword: English Songs, Speaking Ability, Students? Motivation Speaking is one of the most important English skills for communicating opinions, ideas, and feelings to others, and speaking allows people to interact with each other. Based on my observations on teaching practice in junior high schools, students lack confidence in practicing speaking English. In addition to students' speaking problems, the teacher's media in the classroom also influences the teaching and learning process. The use of conventional media or traditional media is still found in the process of teaching speaking in class. Therefore the researcher conducted his research in motivating students' speaking skills by using English song media on Spotify. The purpose of this study was to find out the extent of students? speaking ability when having treatment using English songs on Spotify and without English songs on Spotify to determine the substantial difference between them. The researcher conducted quantitative research, and conducted in a quasi-experimental style, with both experimental and control classes included. The sample of this research was 40 eighth-grade students from SMP Purnama 2 Semarang. The research instrument is a test. There are two types of tests given, namely pre-test and post?test. After collecting data, there are significant differences between the classes taught using English songs on Spotify and the classes taught without English songs on Spotify. The results of the study can be seen on the post-test after giving treatment. The mean score pre-test was 59.50 which is classified as "adequate" and the mean score post-test was 83.00 which is classified as "very good". Based on the Mann Whitney table, shows that based on output statistics, the Asymp Sig (2-tailed) value is 0.002 because <0.05 can be determined that the hypothesis is accepted. As a result, there is an influence on English songs on Spotify to motivate students' speaking ability.
