Andini, Previa Wina. 2024. The analysis of teacher's code-switching in EFL classroom: A research at eight grade students of SMPN 2 Bonang. Final Project, English Education Study Program, Faculty of Language an Arts Education, Universitas PGRI Semarang. Advisor I: Dr. Senowarsito, M.Pd., Advisor II: Dr. Dias Andris Susanto, S.Pd., M.Pd. This study aims to: (1) Identify teacher?s code-switching are found in EFL class at SMPN 2 Bonang (2) Know the types of code-switching are used by English teacher in EFL class at SMPN 2 Bonang (3) Examine the students? response of teacher?s code-switching in EFL class at SMPN 2 Bonang. This study used qualitative descriptive approach. The participants in this study are the English teacher and 30 eight-grade students. The instruments of this study were observation sheet, audio recording and questionnaire. The findings indicate that: (1) Teacher?s code-switching in EFL class can be employed dynamically during discussions. Alternating between Indonesian and English enhances communication among participants by addressing their linguistic requirements and situational context. Code-switching helps communicate instructions, convey information, and clarify concepts, (2) teacher use 3 types of code-switching, there are tag switching, inter-sentential switching, and intra-sentential switching in EFL class. The most common use is tag- switching for clarification and explanation to ensures clear understanding and facilitate learning, (3) the majority of students prefer their English teacher to use Indonesian during classes. They find it easier to understand and engage with the material in their native language. They also prefer asking questions and discussing topics in Indonesian. They appreciate receiving instructions and feedback in Indonesian too. This shows the importance of using familiar language for effective learning and communication in the classroom.
