Abstract :
Education in Indonesia is influenced by the era of globalization. In 21st century learning, students must have critical thinking skills. However, in Indonesia critical thinking skills are relatively low. This research aims to design STEAM-based mathematics activities that can be applied in disaster mitigation efforts to enhance pupils' critical thinking ability in VIII grade of middle school mathematics material. The design of STEAM mitigation activities uses research and development (R&D) research, while in the manufacturing process the development model used is 4D (Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate). The resulting product is a STEAM activity design for teachers and students. The product from the research results then goes through two stages of testing, namely validity and practicality testing. The validity test in this research involved five validators (2 lecturers, 1 from SEAQiM and 2 mathematics teachers). The design validation results were 86.8% in the very proper category and the practicability test questionnaire validation results were 93.5% in the very good category. Meantime, the reasonable test of this research involved 10 junior high school mathematics teachers in the Semarang and Demak areas. The reliability results obtained were 0.82 in the very high category. So the design of mitigation STEAM activities in class VIII mathematics material to improve critical thinking skills is included in the feasible and practical category for use in learning.
