Abstract :
This research is entitled A Study on Moral Values Represented in Shawshank Redemption Movie. Movies are an interesting and fun educational medium because they are not boring. By watching movies we can get many benefits; get a lot of knowledge about many things, know about history in the past, and get positive messages called moral values. By knowing moral values, we will do the right things and avoid things that are wrong and not useful in daily life. This study has two statements of problem, namely what moral values are found in Shawshank Redemption movie and which moral values is the most dominant appearing in Shawshank Redemption movie. This research uses qualitative methods and has two sources of data, namely primary data and secondary data. Primary source data in this study is the Shawshank redemption movie. Meanwhile, the secondary data sources are movie scripts, books, and some relevant journals to support primary data. The results of this study are the moral values found in the Shawshank redemption movie; honestly, hard work, unconditional love and kindness, compassion, and co-operation. Then hard work as the most dominant moral value appears in the Shawshank Redemption movie, because this moral value often occurs in this movie. Keywords: Shawshank redemption, movie, and moral value
