Rochmah, Nur Irna. 2021. The Analysis of Illocutionary Acts in Artemis Fowl Movie and Its Contribution in Teaching Speaking. Final Project, English Education Study Program, Faculty of Language and Arts Education, University of PGRI Semarang. Advisor I: Siti Nur?aini, S.Pd., M.Hum., Ph.D. Advisor II: Laily Nur A., SPd., M.Hum., Keywords: Illocutionary Act, Artemis Fowl movie, Teaching Speaking. The objectives of the study were: 1) to find about the types of illocutionary acts found by the main character in Artemis Fowl movie. 2) to know the most dominant type of illocutionary act found by the main character in the Artemis Fowl movie. 3) to describe the contribution types of an illocutionary act in Artemis Fowl movie in teaching speaking material of Junior High School. This research uses qualitative research method for analyzing the data. The data were taken from Artemis Fowl movie through the main character who is Artemis?s utterances. To analyze Artemis?s utterances the researcher uses Searle?s theory. The result of this research, showed that: first, the researcher found four types of illocutionary act which are assertive (117 utterances), directive (57 utterances), commissive (15 utterance), and expressive (11 utterances). The most dominant type of illocutionary act by Artemis's utterances in the Artemis Fowl movie is assertive with some meaning such as stating, informing, agreeing, and denying. There are 117 utterances. Third, the contribution of illocutionary acts, the students know the expression of giving commands in the teaching-learning process in speaking class using Artemis Fowl movie. The suggestions for the next researcher should have complete research about illocutionary acts. The next researchers can also be changed the media or object such as magazine, speech, novel, short stories, etc.
