Abstract :
Fauziah, Lutfiah. 15420032. 2019. Cultural Points Found In Disney Movie Entitled ?Moana? by John Grierson and Its Contribution to Cross Cultural Understanding Teaching. Final Project, English Department, Faculty of Languages and Arts Education, University of PGRI Semarang. The first advisor is Dr. AB. Prabowo KA, S.Pd., M.Hum., the second advisor is Arso Setyaji, S.Pd., M.Hum. Keywords: cultural points, moana, cross cultural understanding The objective of the research are: 1) to find out the cultural points in Moana movie, 2) to describe the effects of culture points experienced main characters in the Moana movie, 3) to describe the contribution of cross cultural understanding learning to students so they can think critically in analyzing cultural elements in real life so they can learn easily. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research. ?Moana? movie is the primary object in this final project. The techniques are watching the movie is the first activity data, download moana moview subtitle and e-book as the data source, identifying the dialogues on the movie, finding the correlation between moana and teaching cross cultural understanding, writing the result and making the conclussion and suggestion. The data of the research are collected by library research, watching movie, collecting references relevant of the movie, selecting the relevant data, identifying the culture points in the movie, identifying the style of the culture points in the movie. In the process of analysis, the researcher found several cultural points which covered belief system, language, custom, physical appearance, government system, the division of social roles. This film teaches us about social life, how to become a tough woman, appreciate friendship, struggle in achieving dreams, never give up, effort and hard work, raise the degree of women to be equal to men. The contribution of this movie to cross cultural understanding teaching is giving information and developing the reader knowledge. Movie can be an alternative media to cross cultural understanding teaching. Therefore, it is suggested that the teacher should be more innovative to get more media to cross cultural understanding teaching by watching the movie and knowing the cultural points of the movie and create more variety topic to make students interest and motivate them to keep in learning.
