Noviana, Erna. 2019. Diary as Media to Improve Students? Writing Recount Text; A Case of the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 3 Mranggen in Academic year 2019/2020, English Study Program, Faculty of Languages and Arts Education, University of PGRI Semarang. Advisor I: Dr. Dyah Nugrahani, M.Hum., Advisor II: Rahmawati Sukmaningrum, S.Pd., M.Pd. Keywords: Writing, Recount, Diary This final project is mainly to research about the use of Diary to improve student?s writing recount text. The objectives of study are; (1) to find out the student?s ability in writing recount text of the eighth grade who were taught without using Diary as the media (2) to find out the student?s ability in writing recount text of the eighth grade who were taught using Diary as the media (3) to find out the significant difference of the students? ability in writing recount text of the eighth grade who were taught using and those who were taught without using Diary as the media. This research used quantitative research with the quasi-experimental design. The population of the research was 217 students of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Mranggen in Academic Year 2019/2020. This research used the Pre-test and Post-test, the sample was assigned to 32 students of VIII B as a control class and 31 students of VIII C as an experimental class. The instrument of this research was written test. The treatment was given to experimental class only. The mean score of control class was 69, 68 and the mean score of experimental class was 88, 16. It means that the students? ability in writing recount text who are taught using Diary was better than the students? ability in writing recount text who were taught without using Diary. The result of is higher than (22,00>2,000) So, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, it can be concluded that there was significant difference between the students? ability in writing recount text who were taught without using Diary and those who were taught using Diary. Based on the research, Diary can be a good teaching media for students to improve students? ability in writing recount text.
