Abstract :
Riyanti, Mira Fajar. 2019. The Use of YouTube: Short Conversation Video to Teach Simple Past Tense At Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 3 Singorojo in Academic Year 2019/2020. Final Project, English Study Program, Faculty of Language and Arts Education, University of PGRI Semarang. Advisor I: Dias Andris Susanto, S.Pd., M.Pd., Advisor II: Ajeng Setyorini, S.S., M.Pd. This final project is based on the study which focus on teaching simple past tense with the help of conversation video. The main purpose of the study are (1) to find out the students? ability in simple past tense before being taught using short conversation video (2) to find out the students? ability in simple past tense after being taught using short conversation video (3) to find out is there a significant difference of students? ability in simple past tense or not before and after being taught using conversation video. The writer used an experimental research to conduct the quantitative research. It used pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design in this research. In collecting the data, the writer used a written test to know the students? ability in learning simple past tense. The tests were pre-test and post-test. After doing the test, the writer calculated the data. The result indicated that the mean score of pre-test was 53.04. Therefore, the students? ability in simple past tense before being taught using short conversation video was low. After taught simple past tense using short conversation video, the writer gave the post-test. The result of the mean score of post-test was 61.21. It was higher than the mean score of pre-test. Then to find out the significant difference between pre-test and post-test the writer used t-test. The result of t-test of t- counted was 6.62. The value of t-test was 6.62> t-table 2.07. It means there was significant difference between the students? achievement ability in simple past tense before being taught using short conversation video and after being taught using conversation video. In conclusion that conversation video can enhancing the students? achievement in learning simple past tense. Finally, the writer would like to recommend some suggestions. The teacher should get some benefits in teaching simple past tense by using conversation video as media. In addition, the students? should give more attention to the learning process.Keywords: conversation video, teaching, using, simple past tense
