Krisdayanti, Yohana. 2019. An Analysis of Politeness in Teacher-Students Interaction in English Class of Eleventh Grade at Kesatrian 2 Senior High School Semarang in the Academis Year 2019/2020. Final Project, English Education Study Program, Faculty of Language and Arts Education, University of PGRI Semarang. Advisor I: Th. Cicik Sophia B., S.S., M.Pd., Advisor II: Ajeng Setyorini, S.S., M.Pd. This final project aims to analyze politeness strategies in teacher-students interaction in English class of eleventh grade at Kesatrian 2 Senior High School Semarang in the the academic year 2019/2020. The final project describes the politeness strategies using Brown and Levinson?s theory. The objectives of this study are (1) to know the types of politeness strategies used by teacher-students interaction in English class (2) to know the kinds of politeness strategies that is dominant used by teacher-students interaction in English class (3) to know the contribution of this research to pragmatics subjects. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data of this study were utterances in the form of words, phrases, and sentences spoken by teacher and students interaction in English class of Eleventh grade. The data were orgnaized and analyzed based on Brown and Levinson?s theory.From this theory, the writer found some findings. There are four types of politeness strategies used by teacher-students interaction in English class. They are bald on-record, positive politeness, negative politeness, and off- record. Bald on record with 29 utterances, positive politeness with 13 utterances, negative politeness with 20 utterances, and last off-record with two utterances. Next is the dominant types of politeness used by teacher-students interaction in English class. The percentage of dominant strategies are bald on-record with 45,3%, negative politeness 31,3%, and positive politeness 20,3%. The last is the contributions of this reaearch to pragmatics subject, this study is expected to have contributed significantly to the process of English language teaching in University of PGRI Semarang. The findings can also become an input to the other universities in Indonesia especially for English education learners. Keywords: Pragmatics, Politeness Strategy, Interaction.
