Abstract :
The study, "Improving Reading Comprehension Through K-W-L Method in Recount Text for VIII-B Grade Students of SMP Negeri 21 Surabaya" using Classroom Action Research was influenced by the student's low reading comprehension score in recount text. The purpose of this study is to find out whether K-W-L Method can increase the VIII-B grade students at SMP Negeri 21 Surabaya in reading comprehension. This study was completed in two cycles, that were cycle 1 and cycle 2. There were 4 stages in every cycle: planning, observation, action, and reflection. The instrument of the study were observation sheet to collecting the qualitative data and reading test sheet to collecting the quantitative data. The findings,it was only 21% of the students could achieve the KKM amount of 76 in previous score. That precentage couldn't reach the success indicator that were 75% of the students had to achieve KKM score. In cycle 1, the precentage was 45% of the students that could achieve the score above 76. And in cycle 2, the precentage could reach the success indicator that was 79%. So, it is possible to conclude that K-W-L method can help the student's improve their reading comprehension in recount text. Keywords : Reading Comprehension, K-W-L Method, Recount Text
