Abstract :
This research was conducted to find out the improvement of speaking skills in 10th grade students at Hang Tuah 4 Surabaya High School using Cooperative Activity strategies in academic year 2019/2020.The research design of this study is classroom action research, which focuses on the efforts to improve the real condition of the English teaching and learning process. The data were taken from the 10th grade students at SMA Hang Tuah 4 Surabaya in the academic year of 2019-2020. The students consisted of 34 students. This research will be declared successful if 75% of 34 students can exceed a score of more than 75 which is the minimum passing criteria for English subjects. Data collected through observation and tests. The research shows that the students improved after being taught by using Cooperative Activity strategy. The researcher used 2 cycles in this research. In the first cycle, the researcher deliver descriptive material using cooperative activity strategies, stimulating students to be more communicative and confident in expressing their opinions and giving tests in the form of dialogue at the end of the cycle. In cycle 1 students' speaking skill has improved but still far from the target of the researcher. The researcher repeats the research in the second cycle with the same strategy and test but with different groups. In cycle 2, the researchers found that students' speaking skill increased by more than 75% so the study was stopped and declared successful.
