Abstract :
Background: Having white teeth is one of the things that people desire to support a
high level of confidence. Tooth color changes in color can cause aesthetic problems
that have a considerable psychological impact. This can be done with teeth whitening
treatment using chemicals such as hydrogen peroxide, carbamide peroxide and sodium
Perborate. However, these ingredients can cause side effects such as sensitive teeth,
gingival mucosal irritations, and sore throat. So that people are interested in using
alternative materials for teeth whitening because it is easily available and cheaper.
Strawberry fruit (Fragaria x ananassa) is known as an alternative natural material
that can be used to whiten teeth that contain elegat acid (ellagic acid) ranging from
0.43 - 4.64 mg per gram of dry weight and malic acid (melic acid). Purpose: This
literature review aims to determine the effectiveness of fruits, especially on
strawberries as an alternative ingredient for teeth whitening. Results: Some theories
say that the use of strawberry is effective as a tooth whitening ingredient. This is
because strawberries contain elegic acid and malic acid which can change the color
of teeth whiter. Conclusion: Strawberry can be used as an effective natural alternative
for whitening teeth
