Descriptive Text The Case Study of The Second Year Student of MTS Riyadlotul
Ulum Kunir, Dempet, Demak, Academic Year 2012/2013.
The objective of the study are to find out the students? ability in writing
descriptive text for the second year students of MTS Riyadlotul Ulum Kunir,
Dempet, Demak, Academic Year 2012/2013, to identify the difficulties or
problems faced by the second year students of MTS Riyadlotul Ulum Kunir,
Dempet, Demak, Academic year 2012/2013 in writing descriptive text, and to
suggest some possible solutions to solve the difficulties or the problems. To
achieve the objectives of the study relevant theories would presented and discuss
in chapter 2 and chapter 3. The research design of this study is quantitative descriptive study. The
population of this study in the second year students of MTS Riyadlotul Ulum
Kunir, Dempet, Demak, academic year 2012/2013. There are 53 students of the

grade. The sample of this research is 35 students and it was taken according to
random sampling. These 35 students are expected to be the representative of
population. The method or technique that is used in collecting data is test. The
instrument that is used in collecting data is writing test. Based on the result the mean of grammar score is 82,70%, the mean of
organization score is 80,30%, the mean of grammar score is 73,00%, the mean of
vocabulary score is 82,70%, the mean of mechanic score is 64,60%, and the result
shows that the students ability in writing descriptive text is good or above average
because the percentages of the mean score is 79,00%. The difficulties faced by the
second year students of MTS Riyadlotul Ulum Kunir, Dempet, Demak, academic
year 2012/2013 are grammar and mechanic mastery is less. Based on the result of the study, some suggestion are given to the students
and the English teacher; the students should study hard and pay attention to the
teachers when they give the English lesson, the students are expected to increase
their grammar and vocabulary mastery and have a lot of practice in order to able
to improve their writing skill. The teachers must give more attention and guidance
to the students who have the low ability and should give the students so overcome
the difficulties which are faced by the students.
