Abstract :
The research paper entitled A Study of Slang Language Used In Linkin Park?s Lyric has two objectives. First is to find slang language by Linkin Park. The second is to find the characteristics of slang language. The study attempts to analyze and indentify the slangs used in Linkin Park lyrics. Slang language had been used by musical industry especially rap music. produced by musicians of rap music. Slang is nonstandard vocabulary composed of words or senses which is characterized primarily by connotations of extreme informality and usually by a currency not limited to a particular region. Slang language is not an official language or it is an informal language, although it is widely used for oral communication in many purposes, as many words quickly become outdated and obsolete because of trends. We need a language in order to communicate with other people in our society. There are two kinds of English; they are formal language and informal language. Slang, itself, often occurs in informal language. The research design of this study is descriptive qualitative research because this study describes the characteristics of slang languages used in Linkin Park song lyric. Most of the characteristic of slang used in Linkin Park is creativity and some of them are flippant and otomatopoeic. There are 53 slang used in Linkin Park lyrics namely 41 is categorized as creativity, 5 is categorized as flippant and 7 is categorized as otomatopoeic.
