Key Words :Analysis, prepositional phrase, entertainment articles Syntax is the study of how words combine to form grammatical sentences. It is the formation and composition of phrases and sentences from these words. In contrast to semantics, syntax is one of the better understood areas within linguistics. Phrase has some types but in this research, the writer wants to analyze one of the phrase types. It is a prepositional phrase. A prepositional phrase is a phrase that begins with a preposition and ends with a noun or pronoun. A prepositional phrase may function as an adverb, adjective, or noun. In this research, there are two objectives of the research. They are to find out the types of prepositional phrase found in the entertainment articles of the Jakarta postand to find out the function of the prepositional phrase in the entertainment articles of the Jakarta post. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The data of this research is prepositional phrase. Meanwhile, the data source isthe entertainment articles of the Jakarta post. Based on the analysis of entertainment articles, the writer found the type of prepositional phrase. They are 115 types of prepositional phrase, the types areplace position and direction (50), condition (14), agency (13), time (13), purpose (7), addition (5), accompaniment (4), cause or reason (3), source (3), possession or origin (3), manner (0), comparison (0). After calculated the types of prepositional phrase, the writer found 117 the functions of prepositional phrase and classify into adverbial function (87), adjectival function (19), and the last is nominal function (11). Relating to the analyzing of prepositional phrase, the writer suggests that the next researcher can use article as a media of analysis, especially the analysis of prepositional phrase. You should look for an article that there are many prepositional phrases, so you can develop your knowledge about prepositional phrase.The writer also hopes this research will be beneficial for the students, lecturers, readers and further researcher in order to use of prepositional phrase in composition of writing a good text.
