Abstract :
One of the negative impacts of rapid development of physical development is the
exploitation of natural resources (NR). Natural Resources in question is one of
the raw materials for building materials ie sand. One alternative to reduce the
exploitation of natural resources is to utilize waste shells as raw material
manufacturing of paving blocks. Utilization of waste shells are very less, as long
as it is only used as decoration, animal feed and cosmetics Mixed. The purpose of
this study to determine the value of test Compressive Strength, Water Absorption,
and Absorption of Sodium Sulfate. Decision taken of shells in the village
Kalanganyar Sedati, Sidoarjo. The raw material mixture of sand and waste shells.
Comparison of the composition of the waste sand and shells are 100%: 0%, 90%:
10%, 80%: 20%. The raw material is mixed with a cement binder with a 1:4 ratio
of Aggregate. Furthermore, printed and press the mixture with 20kg/cm2
pressure, then do a physical exam to determine the best quality according to
standard paving block SNI 03-0691-1996. The experimental results show that the
best results from testing water absorption and compressive strength test of paving
blocks can be achieved at the ratio of 80% sand, shells 20% by age 28 days
paving block. In this composition has a moisture content of paving block 2.94%
and 46.79 MPa press kut test that meets SNI 03-0691-1996. For best results from
the absorption of sodium sulphate test can be achieved at the ratio of 100% sand,
seashells 0% by age 28 days paving block. In this composition paving block
absorption of sodium sulfate has a bit so it is not easily fragile that meet SNI 03-
0691-1996 with a yield of 0.05% which meets PP. 85, 1999.
