Abstract :
study was describes about the cross-culture competence of East Java Indonesia, to the multicultural concept that displayed on the ARB? political ads. By using the identity negotiation theory from Stella Ting Tommey, it is through three components, these are knowledge, mindfulness, and skill. This study was using the reception analysis
approach, and in data collecting, the researcher was using in-depth interviews. The conclusions of this study are East Java people have give two meaning understandings,
these are Dominant-Hegemonic Position and Negotiation Position. The awareness of the original Javanese has not received people from outside of Java into Javanese (be
Javanese) only by using Javanese attributes. ARB does not need to use Javanese attributes, which is the important is has the ability to lead. While the informant from Madura and
Osing has awareness that people that outside of Javanese can using Javanese attributes to be a Javanese. This study demonstrates that the people of East Java have a cross-cultural competence, in the sense of receiving the Indonesian president outside of Javanese as long as they have the ability as the nation leader. There was only one informant who considering that the Indonesian president should be originated from Javanese.
