Abstract :
This study is a descriptive qualitative study, focused in discussing the ego defence mechanism that is portrayed in Thomas Bezucha?s movie ?Monte Carlo? in 2011. This movie tells the story of an eighteen-year-old girl named Grace Ann Bennettt and her best friend Emma Perkins who traveled to Paris, accompanied by her stepsister Meg. When Grace is mistaken for a wealthy heiresses, they are trapped and found themselves going on a dream vacation to Monte Carlo.As a part of psychoanalysis theory, the researcher uses ego defence mechanism. It focuses on the explanation on how the characters use ego defence mechanism to protect themselves using Sigmund Freud theory that is applied to analyze this research paper. The aim of this paper is to find what motivation does Grace have to be fake Cordelia in Monte Carlo movie. Besides that, the aim of this paper is to find out how do main characters use ego defense mecanism to protect themselves. The finding of this research is projection as the main character?s ego defence mechanism through the dialogue and their action. The researcher also found the reason of the character do ego defence mechanism is because anxiety and afraid of something
