Abstract :
This study was written based on feminism approach. The theory applied is
proposed by Kate Millet which is named as ?Sexual Politics?. This study had its
aims to investigate the description of woman oppression and how the men
dominate the women in ?The Girl on The Train? movie.
This study was descriptive qualitative research which focuses on describing the
answer of the research questions. The data of this study were some selected
dialogues from movie?s subtitle. The study was conducted based on Sexual
Politics theory proposed by Kate Millet. The findings showed that the female
characters in ?The Girl on The Train? experience emotional, physical, and verbal
abuses from the male characters, especially the male characters which hold the
role as ?husband?. It is also evident that all husband characters in this movie cause
oppression toward female characters in the form of aggressive and overly
domineering behaviors. The husband characters in this movie are aggressive and
domineering, while the wife characters are needy and passive. This is in line withix
Millet?s theory which provides the differentiation of character between men and
women. Nevertheless, this study gives some additional conclusion beyond Sexual
Politics. It is the conclusion that woman oppression happens not only in social
level, but on personal-psychological level. It is the psychological aspect of woman
and man which create the definition of oppression itself.
