Abstract :
This study was written based on literature psychoanalysis approach. The theory
applied is Freudian Psychoanalysis. This study aims to find out the description of
modern woman altogether with her needs and actions in ?Wedding Date? movie. The
modern woman is represented by main female character named Kat.
This study was descriptive qualitative one that is based on id-ego-superego Freud?s
framework. The application of this theory was based on verisimilitude as literary
phenomena which sees elements of literature including character, is similar with
elements of reality. So, character can be analyzed the way human being can be
analyzed.
The result is about the description of modern woman in ?Wedding Date? which
consists of several characteristics namely (a) public and people-oriented, (b)
influenced heavily by the values of parents and other people, (c) realistic in solving
problems without creating any distortion of mind, (d) value independence and pride
in relationship and (e) value good appearance of her romantic partner, altogether with
natural appearance and natural romantic relationship. The needs (id) and action (ego)
of modern woman are found in the movie too. The modern woman (represented by
Kat, as main character) has adopted realistic solution to fulfill her id of having
boyfriend with good appearance. This needs and actions are in line with her superego
(parent?s expectations) of her to find a good-looking boyfriend.
