Abstract :
Vegetable lettuce is a vegetable that is often consumed in raw conditions
such as lalapan. If not done a good washing before consumption then it can
increase the risk of infected worm eggs that are likely soil transmitted helminth
(STH). Worms belonging to the STH group include roundworms (Ascaris
lumbricoides), mineworms (Hook worms), whipworms (Trichuris trichiura). The
purpose of this study is to identify the contamination of STH eggs in lettuce
vegetables (Lactuca sativa) sold in Legi Market, Surakarta City.
This type of research is descriptive research with quota sampling
technique. The research sample was lettuce from 30 vegetable traders in Legi
Market, Surakarta City. This study used precipitation method with NaOH 0.2%
and microxopis examination with magnification of 100X and 400X.
From the research conducted on 30 samples of lettuce vegetables sold in
Legi Market, Surakarta, there were 4 samples (13.33%) contaminated with STH
eggs. The type of worm eggs found is ascaris sp eggs. and Hookworm eggs.
The conclusion of this study is that there is contamination of egg Soil
Transmitted Helminth in vegetable lettuce (Lactuca sativa) sold in Legi Market in
Surakarta.
