Abstract :
Soil Transmitted Helminths is a nematode which need soil as the media for
development of infective form. There are several types of worms that most often
causes infection, are Trichuris trichiura, Ascaris lumbricoides, Ancylostoma
duodenale and Necator americanus. Transmission of STH infection occurs from
worms eggs in contaminated soil which are attached to vegetables planted on the
ground. The process of processing and washing unfavorable vegetables
facilitates the transmission of eggs to humans. The purpose of this study was to
identify of STH eggs contamination in green mustard (Brassica juncea L) sold in
traditional market of Karanganyar Sub-district.
This research uses descriptive research design with quota sampling
technique. The research sample is green mustard obtained from 30 traders in
traditional market of Karanganyar Sub-district. Examination of STH eggs was
conducted by using sedimentation method with NaOH 0,2%.
The results of the examination showed that 5 samples were contaminated
with eggs. The types of worm eggs found were Ascaris sp eggs and hookworm
eggs.
The conclusion of this study is that green mustard sold in traditional market
of Karanganyar Sub-district contaminated by STH eggs.
