Abstract :
Every song lyrics is always found a word or phrases that is repeated or theyhave opposite or contrastive meaning. Beside to make the lyrics more
interest, songwriter tends to use the way to stress the implied meaningwhich is wanted to be said to listener. However, there are many listeners donot realize that the thing can be examined in scientifically. Actually, the
words that are repeated and the words having opposite meaning are
constitute a part of lexical cohesion. In accordance with Brian Paltridge
(2006) said, ?the relationship between words with similar, related, anddif erent meanings? is called Lexical Cohesion. In this paper the writer
analyzes about the lexical cohesion found in the song lyrics by the groupband Foo Fighters. And the data that are analyzed are taken fromthe lyrics
of Foo Fighters songs. From all song lyrics of Foo Fighters, the writer
chooses six song lyrics that are identified more lexical cohesion found thanother song lyrics. In this paper, the writer found two types of lexical
cohesion, they are reiteration?repetition, synonymy, antonymy, hyponymy, and meronymy and collocation. Meanwhile, both two types of lexical
cohesion, the repetition is the kinds of lexical cohesion that is mostlymentioned, while the hyponymy is the kinds of lexical cohesion that is
